For many teens, the prospect of wearing braces can cause stress and anxiety. The results may not meet your expectations if your teen does not fully engage with the process. This can be due to a lack of compliance during and after treatment.
The evolution of invisible braces has changed that for many teen orthodontic patients. This makes it possible for teens to achieve a beautiful smile with discreet, comfortable, and relatively quick treatment.

Are you a good candidate for Invisalign® Teen?
You must visit us for a dental exam to determine whether you are an Invisalign candidate. Dr. Rever will review your options during the exam and help you decide based on your budget and expected outcome.
If Dr. Rever has determined that Invisalign® Teen is right for you, we will begin by taking dental impressions. We will send the impressions to Invisalign technicians to create your custom aligners.
Each treatment plan is custom to your teeth and misalignment issues. You will receive aligners every two weeks for about a year or longer. It’s important to wear your retainer as directed after your orthodontics treatment is complete to maintain your beautiful, new smile for years to come.
Invisalign® Teen FAQs
For a long time, metal braces were the only option for people who wanted a straighter smile. However, now the Invisalign system allows a dentist to correct misalignment using a series of invisible clear aligners.
Does age matter?
Yes. We want to wait until the jaw stops growing and developing. Otherwise, there could be a negative impact on your treatment. As a result, we typically recommend treatment for patients 16 and older.
Can clear aligners address any level of misalignment?
We use clear aligners to address more minor to moderate cases of misalignment. Traditional metal braces may be the best option for improving your smile’s alignment if you have severe misalignment. We will carefully check your jaw and teeth to decide if Invisalign is the best choice for improving your crooked teeth.
What happens during treatment?
Once we decide you’re a candidate for clear aligners, we will take impressions of your teeth. We will send the materials to the Invisalign lab. You will wear each aligner set for about two weeks, then upgrade to the next. This occurs over about a year and up to 18 months for teen patients.
You will wear the aligners every day for between 20 and 23 hours. You will remove them only for meals, brushing and flossing, and special occasions. The teeth will slowly and gently move to improve alignment and oral health.
What happens if I lose an aligner?
Contact our office if you lose an aligner. We can provide up to 6 free replacement aligners for Invisalign Teen patients. Keep your aligners in their cases to ensure you keep track of them.
How many Invisalign trays do I need?
The number of Invisalign trays you will need depends on your specific dental needs and how much your teeth need to move to achieve your ideal smile. On average, most people use between 20 to 30 trays and wear each tray for about 1-2 weeks.
You might only need 10 to 20 trays if your teeth need minor adjustments. But you could need 30 or more for complex cases.
What is the difference between Invisalign Teen and Invisalign?
Invisalign Teen aligners have small blue dots that fade over time. These blue compliance indicators help parents and dentists check if the teen wears the aligners enough. Teens also get up to six free replacement aligners in case they lose or damage them. Regular Invisalign doesn’t include this.
Invisalign Teen aligners are also designed to accommodate growing teeth and jaws. While both systems work similarly, Invisalign Teen might include extra aligners to account for changes as the teen grows.
Can my teen still get Invisalign if they have baby teeth or wisdom teeth?
Yes, your teen can still get Invisalign even if they have baby teeth or wisdom teeth. If they still have baby teeth, we will check if the adult teeth underneath are ready to come in soon. Sometimes we can plan Invisalign treatment around baby teeth that are about to fall out naturally.
For wisdom teeth, most teens don’t need them removed before starting Invisalign unless the teeth are causing crowding or other problems. Clear aligners for teens can work around existing teeth, including wisdom teeth if there’s enough space.
What happens if my teen doesn’t wear their aligners as directed?
If your teen doesn’t wear their Invisalign aligners 20 to 22 hours a day it can cause problems with their treatment. First, their teeth won’t move as planned. The aligners might start feeling tight or stop fitting properly. This can delay progress and force the orthodontist to order new aligners.
Skipping wear time can also make teeth shift back toward their original position. If aligners are left out too long, your teen might even need to go back to earlier trays to restart the process.
